Pre-Health Professions Track

Start your path to becoming a compassionate leader in health care through this highly personalized program.

TCU Pre-health students in an emegency simulation

At TCU, pre-health is not a major, but an academic enhancement program. While the majority of pre-health students major in biology or another science, pre-health students hail from more than 40 different majors.

The Pre-Health Professions Institute provides advising and programming designed to enhance the academic and extracurricular experience of pre-professional students at TCU. Pre-Health faculty and staff provide a personal touch to ensure our students鈥 preparedness for professional school. This accounts for an acceptance rate to professional school that is 1.5-2x the national average. Our institute offers a number of opportunities in global health and the medical humanities, helping our students to become well-rounded future health care leaders.

Our Faculty

The faculty advisors of the Health Professions Advisory Committee are caring teacher-scholars from five departments with expertise ranging from the medical humanities to traditional science disciplines. They have decades of experience working with Pre-Health students, and several faculty advisors have been recognized among the university鈥檚 best mentors and teachers.

Access to faculty through weekly walk-in advising and formal one-on-one advising each semester ensure that students get the advice and mentoring they need.

What Sets Us Apart

Our student-to-advisor ratio is one of the lowest in the nation. And our institute boasts an 80 percent acceptance rate to medical school鈥攁lmost twice the state and national average鈥攁nd acceptance rates of 80 percent or higher to the other health professions schools.

We鈥檝e created a rigorous science curriculum designed with the Pre-Health student in mind, helping you excel on admission exams and in professional school.

A clinical observations program allows you to engage in short-term shadowing opportunities beginning your first year.

We facilitate health-related internships in emergency medicine, oncology, community health, and fetal medicine, as well as volunteer opportunities with health-related organizations within the community.

Career Prospects

Our students matriculate to medical, dental, veterinary medicine, physician assistant, pharmacy, optometry, podiatry and public health professional programs. Over the past 30 years, approximately 1,000 pre-health alumni have been accepted to professional schools around the country, including Harvard, Johns Hopkins, New York University and every medical and dental school in Texas. We support any student wishing to apply to professional school, regardless of GPA and standardized test score.
