Senior Instructor of Microbiology Clark Jones was named by the TCU Student Government Association as the 2023 SGA Faculty Member of the Year for his exemplary dedication to teaching and assisting students in and outside of the classroom.
鈥淲hat a wonderful surprise to be the recipient of the award and a great ending to the semester. I am humbled and honored to be selected as the 2023 SGA Faculty Member of the Year,鈥 Jones said. 鈥淥ver the years at TCU, I have tried to be a resource for our students through advising, mentoring and just being a point of connection to make students feel supported and a part of the TCU community.鈥
Jones graduated with his bachelor鈥檚 in biology from TCU in 1989 and his master鈥檚 in biology in 1992.
鈥淎s a TCU graduate, I had many faculty who fostered my love of learning and supported me both personally and professionally, and it is only fitting that I give back to TCU students the same way,鈥 he said.
SGA accepted nominations from undergraduate students during the spring elections. Finalists were then chosen for each college before Jones was unanimously selected by the SGA Academic Affairs Committee as this year鈥檚 winner.
According to SGA, students nominated him for his availability, advice and excitement.
鈥淵ou have had a profound impact on these students and numerous others over your tenure at TCU,鈥 reads the award letter from SGA. 鈥淭hank you for the role that you play in making our university an amazing place to study, learn and grow.鈥
In addition to his role in the College of Science & Engineering, Jones is also an assistant professor at the Burnett School of Medicine. He serves on the TCU Health Professions Advisory Committee and is currently the co-chair of the TCU 150 Programming Subcommittee, which has had a huge impact on the planning and execution of the Sesquicentennial celebration.
